I spent a great 5 days in some the most beautiful sections of the state from Dolly Sods to Spruce Knob. In 2008, I will be leading a Photo Workshop in October. I have been quite busy this week going back through and processing and key wording images from this past fall for a large submission to my stock agencies. I came across a series of dewy web images from a trip I made into the West Virginia Highlands in early October. This particular shot was made just about an hour after sunrise in a meadow that was almost completely filled with these Orb webs. I used my 105 Macro and an extension tube to make this image, By setting my aperture to f5.6 was able to get just enough depth-of-field to keep a section of the web in focus while still being able to let the rest of the image blur out.

I will post some more Spider Web images from this past fall throughout the rest of the week, so check back every so often.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share my image "Potomac Cascades" which just made the cover of Photo Techniques Magazine for the January/February edition. I made this image this past summer while shooting at Great Falls, a favorite haunt of mine. The waterfalls and cascades along the Potomac River through Mather Gorge provide countless opportunities to make powerful scenics and is a place that I will continue to visit over and over again.

Oregon Ridge Road

I am working on producing a new body of work from Baltimore and Harford Counties for upcoming workshop venues in 2009. So even though the leaves have fallen and the weather was less than ideal for great shots, I decided to head out early this morning and do some scouting in the Worthington Valley area of Baltimore County. Here are a few shots from this morning at Oregon Ridge Nature Center. Enjoy!

Autumn on the Shore

I headed out very early this morning to be on location at Blackwater NWR at sunrise. I was hoping for a bit of fog and maybe some frost, but unfortunately it wasn't enough moisture over night to produce either one. I settled for a beautiful sunrise with some really nice clouds.

After finishing up shooting sunrise along the Blackwater River, I drove around for a few hours shooting whatever I could find. The autumn color is still quite good in many parts of Talbot and Queen Anne's Counties, so I focused my attention on coming away with some nice autumn images for my fine art and stock portfolio. Great Falls Autumn Workshop - Images

We had our second to last photography workshop last weekend at Great Falls National Park, VA.
The weather was cold and overcast for much of the weekend with a little bit of fog and good light at sunrise on Sunday morning. I would like to thank the workshop participants for a really fun weekend and good company. The foliage this year has been about 2 weeks late and we ended up being in the park during peak foliage conditions. Due to the soft light and wet weather we turned our attention from shooting "Grand Scenics" along Mather Gorge to recording intimate portraits of the woods and macro and abstract shots. Here are a few of my favorite images from the week. Enjoy!

Pre-Workshop Shoot at Great Falls

I awoke at 4:00am this morning to head out to Great Falls National Park for a morning shoot in the park and then along Scott's Run Nature Preserve before heading over to Meadowlark Gardens for my "Creative Close-ups" Course. I had some really nice light at sunrise and some great color, finally, along Scott's Run. Next weekend is the Great Falls Photo Weekend and there are still 2 spots available if anyone is interested in attending. We will have an all day photo shoot with a 2 hour break for lunch and photo critiques on Saturday and then a 3 hour morning session on Sunday morning. The cost is only 124.99 per person.
